Outdoors calendar



NOTE: All the listed events are open to the public, although membership in some organizations may be required.

MONDAY: The CSRA Flyfishing Association will meet at 7:30 p.m. at Brandon Wilde Clubhouse, 4375 Owens Road, Evans. The program includes a planning discussion for future fly-fishing trips.

SATURDAY-SUNDAY, SEPT. 1: The 22nd annual Dixie Bowhunter Jamboree will be held by the Thomson Field Archers Club off Georgia Highway 43 near Thomson. Call (706) 556-3240 for details.

SATURDAY: The Bob Parrish open Sporting Clays Shoot will be held at Pinetucky Gun Club. The cost is $55 plus fees. Food included. Call 592-4230 for details.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 5-SATURDAY, SEPT. 7: The Quail Unlimited/Realtree Celebrity Dove Shoot includes three days of hunting, dining and entertainment in Augusta; Edgefield, S.C.; and Allendale, S.C. Call (803) 637-5731 for ticket/sponsor information.

SEPT. 7-8:The 22nd annual Georgia Trappers Association convention will be held at Columbia County Fairgrounds with events for kids, families and adults. Admission is free, and the public is invited. Programs include shooting, trapping and wildlife management demonstrations, education programs, a fish fry and other events. Call 796-3243 for more details.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 21; TUESDAY, SEPT. 24; and SATURDAY, SEPT. 28: The Rivers & Glen Flyfishing School, which includes lessons on casting, equipment, knots, clothing, stream ecology, etiquette and other topics, will be taught by Dacre Stoker, Carl Hammond-Beyer and Randy DeGrow. SATURDAY, SEPT. 21-SUNDAY, SEPT. 22: A&M Fish Camp, three miles below New Savannah Bluff Lock and Dam at the Dead River, will hold its first Savannah River Fishing Tournament. THE FORT GORDON Sportsman's Club meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. Membership is open to the public. The shooting range (7A) will be open to the public for firing and zeroing in rifles. A 3-D archery range also is available. The cost is $6 per person ($3 to club members).
