AIKEN, S.C. - Willie Mae Pope, 91, of Aiken died Thursday, August 22, 2002, at Azalea Woods Nursing Home in Aiken. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2002, at the Second Baptist Church in Aiken, with the Rev. Leander Jones and Rev. Dr. Alex Pope Jr. officiating and the Rev. Ronald Coleman presiding. Burial will be in the Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery, Eureka. Mrs. Pope was a member of the Springfield Baptist Church of Eureka, where she served as a Deaconess, a member of the Senior Choir and the Mother of the Church. Survivors include three sons, January Pope Sr., Wyman Pope Sr., Rev. Dr. Alex Pope Jr., all of Aiken; and four daughters, Jeanette Cohen, Gladys Williams and Wilhelmena Pope, all of Aiken and Justine Pope of North Augusta. Family and friends may call at the residence of her son, Rev. Dr. Alex Pope Jr., 4010 Wood Valley Drive, Aiken, or after 1p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. There will be a quiet hour at 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2002, at the G. L. Brightharp and Sons Mortuary at 390 Beaufort Street NE, Aiken.
