The eastern and western forces of the cross-country air races converged on Bartlesville, Okla., yesterday, but two of the group, including a Richmond County man, were missing.
Fred Dorset of Augusta, whose fast time on other legs of the flight gained him many points, was not to be found. Mr. Dorset was in third place at the time. Bad weather in Jackson, Miss., delayed yesterday's takeoffs.
The Oliver Hardy Festival is taking applications for participants in the annual Oliver Hardy parade, to begin at 10 a.m. Oct. 5.

PICK A PEACH
First, smell the fruit. Then check the color - the background should be gold or yellow. (A red or blush color indicates variety, not ripeness.) A well-defined crease should run from the peach's stem to its point.

The Augusta-Richmond County cooling centers will remain open until Sept. 30.
David Dlugolenski, the director of the Richmond County Emergency Management Agency, said seven cooling centers are open in Richmond County. They are for people who do not have air conditioning in their homes.
