The Chronicle is making two minor changes to the Inside Business section that we believe will be major improvements for our readers.
The first change is that we will no longer print Richmond County property transfers in this section. Starting today, the listing of real estate transactions will appear in the Today's Home section.
Why are we doing this?
The main reason is that there is simply more room in Today's Home. Lack of space in the Inside Business section severely reduced the amount of property transfers we could run each week, causing us to have a backlog of data.
Moving these public records to Today's Home will allow us to print a larger portion of property transfers each week and eventually let us get "caught up" on the data. Hopefully, by the end of the year we expect the property transfer data that appears in The Chronicle will be only two or three weeks old, instead of several months old.
Also, we thought real estate transactions would be great content for Today's Home, which is a section devoted to the local real estate market.
The space created by moving the property transfers out of Inside Business enables us to make our second change: expanding the Biz Bits/On The Move feature, which is our free community-service listing designed to highlight achievements of people and companies that make up our business community.
In the past, we have had to edit the size of Biz Bits/On The Move submissions for space. That was a common gripe among those who submitted items. Now, we will be able to run most of the information submitted to us.
You'll notice on the following page that many of the items are already longer in length because we are able to give more details and background for each individual and company. We believe the change will make this well-read feature even more popular.
Now here's where I ask for your help: Keep the submissions coming.
Did your company just hire or promote an employee? Send it in.
Have you won an industry award or achieved a new level of professional certification? Send it in.
Has your business relocated or opened a second location? Well, you get the picture.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you. Instructions on how to submit items are printed directly underneath the Biz Bits/On The Move section. It's quick and easy - just type a few paragraphs and mail, fax or e-mail it to me.
If you've got a photo, include a glossy print or e-mail an electronic version as a .jpg. If you don't know what a .jpg is, ask the office computer nerd.
If you happen to be in the neighborhood, you can even hand deliver items to me. I like visitors because I get to leave my cubicle.
