As a three-year season ticket holder of the Augusta Stallions, and one of the founding members of the Stallions booster club, I am extremely concerned about the ongoing dispute between the Stallions' ownership and the August-Richmond County Civic Center.
It is obvious to anyone who has attended an event at the civic center in the past few months that the management of the facility has significantly deteriorated. Maintenance of the building and poor concessions are at the top of the list of items that need attention.
I hope that our civic center leadership and local politicians can work with the Stallions and other tenants to ensure that we can maintain the quality of entertainment that we currently enjoy.
I also appeal to the Stallions' owner, Frank Lawrence, to negotiate in good faith and allow the civic center staff time to improve the facility's operation.
If the two sides cannot reach an agreement, I fear we will lose an exciting entertainment option that was beginning to build a large fan base.
If you have never attended a Stallions game, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. I think that you will find "the 50-yard indoor war" to be an entertaining, enjoyable and very reasonably priced night out.
