Augusta splits doubleheader

ALBANY, Ga. - The Augusta GreenJackets split a doubleheader with the South Georgia Waves Friday night at Paul Eames Sports Complex.

Augusta starter David Pahucki was shelled for 10 hits and four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings as the Waves pounded out 12 hits in the 5-1 victory.

Pahucki got in trouble early after surrendering a two-run single to first baseman Thomari Story-Harden in the first inning.

Waves starter Mike Keirstead had no trouble with the Jackets batters. Keierstead won for the third time in his last five starts by pitching six shutout innings and allowing only four hits.

Augusta (31-30) right fielder Ryan Brunner's RBI single in the top of the fifth gave the Jackets a 5-2 win in the second game.

Brunner hit a floater in between outfielders Derek Mann and Franklin Gutierrez to score the Jackets' third run of the game. Brunner's hit came an inning after the Waves tied the score.

Rafael Sanchez (7-12) got the win for Augusta with five strong innings of five-hit ball, allowing a lone earned run with six strikeouts. Jason Howell got his 14th save, his third against South Georgia (29-31), with two shutout innings.
