AUGUSTA, Ga. -Mrs. Evelyn Lillian Sylvester passed this life at University Hospital on August 5, 2002. She was born in Brooklyn, N. Y. on September 9, 1911, and her youth was spent on the Island of Barbados in the British West Indies. Mrs. Sylvester was the widow of Mr. Louis F. Sylvester of Mobile, Ala. She was a lifelong Member of State Street African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church of Mobile Alabama. Her service to the church included faithful membership on the Stewardess and Deaconess Boards and employment as the church secretary for over 26 years. After moving to Augusta in July of 1999, she attended Bicentennial Chapel at Fort Gordon, Ga. She is survived by her son, Colonel (Ret) Louis A. K. (Vivian ) Sylvester, Augusta; step-son, Brian L. (Latrice) Sylvester, Mobile; granddaughter, Rosalind L. Sylvester, Brooklyn,; grandsons, Michael B. (Dee) Sylvester, Los Angeles,Cali; Keith W. L. Sylvester, Augusta; step-grandson, Tyler and Tyson Sylvester, Mobile; Maurice (Chaundra) Thompson, Atlanta; great grandson, Duron, Devin, and Darian Sylvester Los Angeles, Cali; and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held in her honor at Fort Gordons Bicentennial Chapel, on Saturday, August 10, 2002, at 11 a.m., Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 246 Davis Road, Suite E, Augusta, Ga. 30907.
