LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Ryan Howard's one-out single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th helped the Lakewood BlueClaws beat the Augusta GreenJackets 4-3 in front of 8,042 fans at FirstEnergy Park on Tuesday night.
Augusta scored two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 3. Dan Generelli (1-2) took the loss after he gave up Howard's single in the 12th in a game that lasted three hours and 52 minutes.
Generelli allowed four hits and one run in 3 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out one.
Lakewood's Matt Squires pitched four innings of relief to earn his fifth win of the year.
Shane Rhodes only lasted two-thirds of an inning, giving up three hits and one run before being lifted for Kevin Huang. Huang pitched 4 1/3 innings and allowed two hits. Ryo Kumagai gave up two runs on four hits in three innings.
Bryan Kent, John Hattig and Daniel Figueroa each had two hits to lead the Jackets.
Danny Gonzalez led all batters with three hits, and Jeff Phelps, Sean Walsh and Chad Oliva each collected two hits.
The win was Lakewood's third in their past 10 home games. The Blue Claws improve to 23-22 in the second half and 56-58 overall. Augusta falls to 23-21 and 57-56.
The teams will play Game 3 of their four-game series at 7:05 tonight.
