AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Julia Johns Porter, 97, beloved wife of the late Benjamin F. Porter, entered into rest Monday, July 22, 2002, at Kentwood Nursing Home. Mrs. Porter was born October 2, 1904, in White Springs, Fla. She graduated in 1926 from Jackson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Miami, where she later became Assistant Director of Nursing. She was a long time member of Lakeside United Methodist Church in Miami and past president of UMW. Before moving to Augusta in 1991, She was an active member of Allapattah Womens Club and Girl Scout Leader. She was a resident of Saint John Towers from 1991 to 1999, where she was a member of the Singing Saints and served many volunteer hours. She was a member of Saint Mark United Methodist Church and attended the Jane Wells Bible class. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn (Olden) Porter Ganus of Augusta and Janet (Tim) Porter Delrose of Middleburg, Fla.; five grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Hall, Dale (Kirsten) Jones, Sharon (Louis) Troisi, Michael (Lillian) Murray, Meredith (Chris) Murray Weeks and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 27, 2002, at 11 a.m. from Elliott Sons Columbia Road Chapel with Reverend Robert Gillespie officiating. Interment at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday, July 26, 2002, from 7 to 9 p.m at the funeral home.
