HIGH POINT, N.C. - Graveside services for Mrs. Pearl Scoggins Denny, 105, of Wesleyan Arms, High Point, N.C., who died July 21, 2002, will be conducted Thursday Morning at 11 oclock in the Sunset Hill cemetery. Dr. James C. Adams officiating. Mrs. Denny was born December 19, 1896 in York County, S.C., a daughter of the late John and Mary Whitesides Scoggins. She graduated from Erskine College in 1916 and was an English Teacher in S.C. Schools and at Wrens, GA, where she taught Erskine Cauldwell who authored Tobacco Road and Gods Little Acre. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and a resident of High Point for the past 16 years. In 1919 she married James William Denny who preceded her in death in 1956. She was also preceded in death by sons, Jim Denny, Jr. and Willis Denny. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Clark Cole, High Point, N.C.; a son an daughter-in-law, John Scoggins and Nita Denny, Manning, S.C.; 14 grandchildren, John Denny, Jim Denny, Mike Denny, Elizabeth Denny, David Cole, Carol Cole, Clark Cole, Jim Cole, Pam Denny, Fran Denny, Jennifer Denny, Jim Denny, III, Kay Denny and Bill Denny; and 15 great grandchildren.
