Film producers find ideal locations in state

CONYERS - More movie and television shows are being filmed in Conyers and Covington, east of Atlanta.

According to statistics from the Georgia Film, Video and Music office, 326 feature film and television shows were filmed in the state between 1973 and 2001.

Although the majority have been filmed in Atlanta, producers say they are looking beyond the hustle and bustle of the city for smaller, more serene locations.

Convicted molester charged over pictures

DECATUR - A Decatur man who spent two years in prison for child molestation has been accused of taking pictures of scantily clad girls and posting them on the Internet.

Walter C. Cooksey III is being held in the DeKalb County Jail without bond, jail officials said. He was arrested July 12 as he arrived for a regularly scheduled meeting with his probation officer.

2003 completion date set for arts center

SAVANNAH - The huge dirt pit flanking Telfair Square should be transformed into the Jepson Center for the Arts by late 2003, say Telfair Museum of Art officials.

Construction has been under way at the site - an addition to the oldest art museum in the South - for about 10 months now.

When the $22.5 million, 64,000-square-foot building is finished, it will house 20th and 21st century artwork, an auditorium, art storage facilities, studio workshops, sculpture gardens, library, cafe and store.

SUV kills truck driver while checking his rig

ST. MARYS - A truck driver was killed and his co-worker injured when they were struck by a sport utility vehicle that veered into the emergency lane on Interstate 95 as the truckers checked their rigs, state troopers said.

Ricky L. Smith, 43, of Jacksonville, Fla., was dead at the scene of the Friday crash about two miles north of the Georgia-Florida line near St. Marys, said Trooper 1st Class Andy Sinquefield, of the Georgia State Patrol. Michael Spears, 40, of Jacksonville, was treated at Camden Medical Center and released, Trooper Sinquefield said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the state patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team.
