If there's anything that D'Andra Reid wants people to know about her mother, Dorothy, it's that she lived life to the fullest.
"She was a really happy person," she said. "She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She lived a full and happy life."
Mrs. Reid, 51, died Tuesday at Doctors Hospital. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Spirit Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Glasper Nero officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Reid was a former kindergarten teacher at Thomson Elementary School and had recently been substitute teaching at Glenn Hills Middle School, her daughter said.
When she wasn't spending her time in a classroom, though, she was spending time at her church.
"She was a real church-going lady," her daughter said.
Mrs. Reid also had a passion for collecting; her favorite items were the elephant figurines that filled her house.
"I haven't the slightest idea when she started," her daughter said. "A lot of people just gave them to her."
Mrs. Reid also is survived by her husband, Lawrence; a son, Derrick J. Reid; another daughter, Dichelle Reid; five brothers, Johnny Edward Walker, Ben Rhodes Jr., Melvin Rhodes, David Rhodes and Marvin Rhodes; three sisters, Bernice R. Newton, Gloria Rhodes and Elease Rhodes; and four grandchildren.
