EVANS, Ga. - Mr. Fred W. Mays, 76, of Evans, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at the residence. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Platts Belair Road. Chapel with Rev. D. Alan Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. Mr. Mays was co-owner of Alrich Electric and a native of Columbia County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church, Civitan Club, and Local # 1579 I.B.E.W. He was the chairman of JATC Program and a Sponsor of Special Olympics of Columbia County. Survivors include his wife, Theresa A. Mays; four daughters, Eva Holbrook of Augusta, Lyndia Dover of Pelion, S.C., Brenda K. Killgore and Cheryl A. Brown, both of Martinez; one brother, Bobby May of Gray; two sisters, Rubye Edmonds of Martinez and Frances Norris of Evans; and a special niece and nephew, Ray and Lillian Edmonds of Martinez; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Pallbearers will be Herbert Temples, Bruce Clark, Bryant Percival, Richard Beard, Sammy Navarre, Stanley Percival, Darrell Hampson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Local # 1579 IBEW and employees of Alrich Electric. If so desired, memorials may be made to the Columbia County Speical Olympics c/o Board of Education, Appling, Ga. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
