EDGEFIELD, S.C. - Funeral services for Clifton Johnson, 81, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2002, at Edgefield First Baptist Church with burial at Sunset Gardens Memorial Park. Visitation will be held today, July 18, 2002, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, July 16, 2002. He was born in Trenton and he was the son of the late Luther Patrick and Tula Gay Johnson. He was a WW II Army veteran and he was a member of Edgefield First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a graduate of Clemson University. He retired from Star Fiber in 1986 where he was the plant engineer. He especially loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. The Lord was the source of his incredible strength and the joy of his salvation. His passion was his love for his country and his garden. Surviving are his wife, Martha Smith Johnson; son, Hubert Johnson and his wife, Sandra of Kings Mountain, N.C.; daughters, Lula Ryan and her husband, Tom of Lexington, and Lisa Black and her husband, Keith of Moore; daughter-in- law, Suz J. Zevenbergen of Iowa; sisters, Mary Lee Jackson of Great Falls and Martha Clark of Johnston, 13 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Luther Johnson.
