Aiken Fireworks Festival
The event will be held from 3 to 10 p.m. at the Aiken Jaycees Fairgrounds on U.S. Highway 1. Activities include an arts and crafts show, food, carnival attractions, music on two stages and fireworks. Call 279-8017.
Little River Marina
The marina is at 4271 Old Lincolnton Road in Leah. Activities include horseshoes, races and a watermelon seed-spitting contest. Festivities begin at 2 p.m., with music by church ensembles starting at 5 and fireworks scheduled for 9:30. Admission is $6 per car, $10 per van or $15 per bus.
Fort Gordon Independence Day Celebration
The celebration starts at 5 p.m. at Barton Field and will feature music with Black Eyed Susan, Susan Lynn, Tony Williams and the Blues Express and the U.S. Army Signal Corps band. The event will also feature military displays, a laser show, fireworks and a laser/fireworks spectacular. Admission is free.
Columbia County's Independence Day celebration takes place from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Patriots Park, 5445 Columbia Road. Activities include moonwalks, hot-air balloon lifts, clowns, music, food and fireworks. The pyrotechnics are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Call 868-3458.
Festivities begin at noon with an arts and crafts show and amusements. At 4:30 p.m., local entertainers take the stage. Scheduled to appear are Derrick Monk, the Master City Three, Footloose and Fancy Free Cloggers, the Flo Carter Band, the Savannah Wind Middle Eastern Dancers and the Rhythm and Class Cloggers. At 7 p.m., Derrick Monk will sing the national anthem at the Jessye Norman Amphitheater, followed by a concert by the Army Signal Corps Band. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. Call 821-1754.
Star Spangled Concert
The Independence Day Orchestra and Chorus, an assemblage of local talent, will perform a concert of patriotic music at 8 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 605 Reynolds St. Admission costs $12, $8 for students older than 12 and $5 for children 12 and younger. Grovetown will hold a barbecue at the city park from noon until the food runs out. The event will feature live music and dancing. Admission and barbecue is free for those eating at the celebration, and takeout plates will be available for $4.50. For more information, call 863-4576.
