SARDIS, Ga. - Mrs. Mary Alma Oglesby Chance, 85, of Joyner- Oglesby Road, died Wednesday, June 26, 2002, at Burke Medical Center, Waynesboro. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, June 28, 2002, at DeLoach Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Keith Jordan officiating. Interment will be in Sardis Cemetery. Mrs. Chance was a native of Screven County, but had lived most of her adult life in Burke County. She was a retired seamstress from Jockey, Inc., Millen, a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Alexander. She was a wonderful mother, a beloved grandmother and a faithful sister. She loved genealogy, and could remember things that most people had forgotten. Survivors include one son, Jack W. "J.W." Chance and his wife, Jackie D. Chance of McBean; one brother, Eugene Oglesby, Savannah; three sisters, Estelle Havis, Odessa, Texas; Lucille Long, Midland, Texas and Dollie Overstreet, Rincon; three granddaughters, Karen Davis, McBean, Susan Chance, Augusta and Pam Johnson of Harlem; two step great-granddaughters; a number of nieces and nephews.
