GIBSON, Ga. - Mr. Joseph W. Stringfield, 62, of West Main Street, died Monday, June 24, 2002, at the VAMC Downtown Division, Augusta. The funeral with Full Military honors will be held at 4p.m., Wednesday at Mill Creek Baptist Church, with the Pastor Larry Harmon, officiating. Interment will follow in the Gibson City Cemetery. Mr. Stringfield was a native of Augusta. He was an Army veteran with 22 years of active service. He served two tours of service in Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star for Valor and Two Purple Hearts. He then returned home to raise his five children, along with his devoted wife, while serving, then retiring from the National Gard. He was a faithful member and deacon of West Acers Baptist Church, in Evans. Then after moving to Gibson, he joined Mill Creek Baptist Church and served as deacon until his health enabled him. Mr. Stringfield was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors are his loving wife, Mrs. Sandra Chalker Stringfield of Gibson; three sons, Joseph C. Stringfield of Detroit Lakes, Minn., James L. Stringfield of McIntyre, Ga., Barry C. Stringfield of Aiken; two daughter Trina Weldon of Harlem, Sabrina Conklin of Evans; two brothers, David P. Stringfield of McCormick and Roy L. Stringfield of Martinez; three sisters, Anne Elrod, Alberta Kersey and Rosa Mae Ward, all of Harlem; eight grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9p.m., today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mill Creek Baptist Church Building Fund in Care of Joe Dean Usry, P.O.
