AIKEN, S.C. - Mr. William Nightingale Jr., 92, of H. Landing Drive, Aiken, died June 18, 2002, at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 21, 2002, at 2p.m., at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with The Rev. Howard J. Hess, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Nightingale is survived by his loving wife, Mary Tarpley Nightingale. Other survivors include two daughters, Mary King Auman, Columbia, Judy Durant, Franklin, N.C.; one son, William Nightingale III, Jacksonville, Fla.; one grandchild, Amy Ellison Cassidy; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Cassidy, William Cameron Cassidy; and one half-sister, Jane Nightingale, Dallas, Texas. Mr. Nightingale was born in Brunswick, Ga., and graduated from Glynn Academy and Georgia Tech. Mr. Nightingale worked for EI Dupont SRP as a Chief Supervisor of Industrial Relations for 30 years until he retired in 1967. He was a Chairman of the Aiken Chapter of the American Red Cross, a past Senior Warden at Saint Thaddeus Episcopal Church and All Saints Church, was active in the United Way. After his retirement he went into real estate with Eulalie Salley Realtors.
