Gooden receives one-year probation
Dwight Gooden, 37, accused of drunken driving in February, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a reduced charge of reckless driving, and was placed on probation for one year.
Hillsborough County Circuit Judge James Dominguez also ordered the former All-Star to complete DUI school, and perform 21 hours of community service.
Gooden was arrested on Feb. 20 when Tampa police said they saw his car swerving on an expressway and subsequently found an open beer bottle in his car.
Gooden pitched 16 seasons for the New York Mets and Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Devil Rays before retiring in March 2001 with a 194-112 record and 3.51 career ERA.
Georgia Games
Officials promote event awareness
In a presentation to the Augusta Commission, the Greater Augusta Sports Council and Department of Parks and Recreation announced plans for this summer's Georgia Games, which will be held in the area from July 12-21.
Augusta is the only city outside of Atlanta to host the games, which will require more than 2,500 volunteers and be "Olympic in style," officials said.
Opening ceremonies for the games will include a torch run and a performance by singer Edwin McCain. The mayor was presented with a framed poster, promoting the games during Tuesday's Augusta Commission meeting.
