SYLVANIA, Ga. - Mrs. Rubie McMillan Howard, 88, of Sylvania, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in St. Josephs Hospital in Savannah. She was born and lived all her life in Screven County, was a former member of Sylvania Garden Club, a member of the Sylvania First Baptist Church and the Philathea Sunday School Class, and was the retired owner of Pine Vale Campgroung. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. Howard and a son, Charles Howard. Survivors include three daughters, Vera Linnell, Joyce Thompson and Arlene Bifano; daughter-in-law, Carol Howard all of Haywood, Calif.; three sisters, Wilma Lee M. Wilson, Grace M. Dickey both of Millen and Hilda M. Taylor of Sylvania; four brothers, J.B. McMillan of Millen, Ted McMillan of Evans, Bobby McMillan and Lenward D. McMillan both of Sylvania; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Howard will be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m., at the Thompson-Strickland- Waters Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Norris and the Rev. Grady Hargrove officiating. Burial will be in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Hobson Parker, Ivey McMillan, Greg Durrence, Robert Cooper, Jerry McMillan, Jimmy McMillan, Lenward McMillan Jr., Stephen Durrence and Ronald Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Philathea Sunday School Class of Sylvania First Baptist Church. Memorial contributions are asked to be made to Sylvania First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 318 Sylvania, GA 30467, or to a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home of Sylvania.
