ABBEVILLE, S.C. - Claud William Bond Jr., 78, resident of McGowan Avenue, husband of the late Rebecca Baughman Bond, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the VA Medical Center in Augusta. Born in Abbeville, November 3, 1923 he was a son of the late Claud William Sr. and May Jones Bond. He had been a member of Abbeville First Baptist Church since 1938, retired as an Engineer from the Seaboard Coastline Railroad, was a founding member of IBEW of Augusta, Ga., member of the Railroad UTU, WWII Veteran of the U.S. Navy and member of the Abbeville Masonic Lodge. Surviving are one son, Claud W. Bond III of Abbeville; three daughters, Margaret Lois Wikman of Riverview, Mich., Rebecca Fernandez of Abbeville, and Marion B. Ware of Due West; ten grandchildren; the oldest grandchild, Brian Szmykowski is formerly of the home; and one great grandchild; three brothers, Francis Bond of Mount Airy, Ga., Marion Bond of Lake Alfred, Fla., and Leroy Bond of Cedar Bluff, Ala.; one sister, Lois Ashcraft of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by a brother, Jack Bond. Graveside services will e 11a.m. Friday, May 17, 2002, at Melrose Cemetery with Rev. Reiny Koschel and Rev. Johnnie Waller officiating. The family respectfully request that flowers be omitted and memorials made to The Claud Bond Scholarship Fund, c/o Abbeville Seaboard System Credit Union, 603 E. Greenwood Street, Abbeville, S.C. 29620. The family is at the home of a daughter, Rebecca Fernandez, 119 McGowan Avenue, Abbeville. Harris Funeral Home is charge of arrangements.
