AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Salem Rehabilitation Center, Mrs. Billie Oliphant Avera, 67, of West Kensington Drive. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2002, at 2:30 p.m., at Wrens Chapel A.M.E. Church, Jefferson County, with Rev. Dr. Lugenia Johnson officiating. Mrs. Avera was a native of Jefferson County and was a member of Wrens Chapel A.M.E. Church. Survivors are a devoted son, James K. Avera, Augusta; adopted daughter, LaVeUnder (Marco) Ryans, Beech Island, S.C.; foster daughter, Brenda (Andy) McCladdie; seven grandchildren, Kenny, Cornell, Corneilus, Corthell, Sarah, M.J., and Devontae, Augusta; two foster grandchildren, Leontaye and Telly, Augusta; two sisters, Lucille Graham, Ada Dorcelus, Augusta, four brothers, Lee Oliphant, Jr., Maywood, Ill., Willie James (Mae) Oliphant, Sr., Sherman, Texas, Alex Oliphant, George (Willa) Oliphant, Augusta; aunts, Eddie Lee Singfield, Gertrude Kelsey, Augusta; devoted cousin, Nathaniel Brown, Augusta; brother-in-law, Jammie Lee Avera; several nieces, nephews, cousins, stepchildren, and godchildren.
