Six gardens will be open to the public Saturday for the Augusta Rose Society's Year of the Rose Garden Tour.
The free tour will include gardens at the Augusta homes of Sharyn and Roy Altman, 3529 Granite Way; Ruth Anne and John Buckner, 3511 Granite Way; Drs. Kathy and Virgil McKie, 1010 Milledge Road; Pat and Bill Wiseman, 2203 Terrace Road; and the North Augusta homes of Charlotte and Paul Blankenship, 1816 Warren Court; and Karen and Dr. Henry Oliver, 11 Sedgewood Court.
The tour will include talks on the hour by consulting rosarians, demonstrations of effective cultural practices for roses, exhibits of common supplies and tools and informative handouts. There also will be an opportunity to buy roses, including varieties not commonly available in the area.
Light refreshments will be served at each garden.
Visitors may choose to start at the garden they find most conveniently located. Demonstrations will be held at each one, but roses and other items will be sold at the Blankenship garden.
