MARTINEZ, Ga. - Entered into rest Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at his residence, retired First Sergeant E-8 George "Jimmy Lee" H. Williams, husband of Mrs. Carline Murray Williams, of Wymberly Circle, Martinez. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2002, at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, Harlem, with the Rev. Charles Broome and David Sargent officiating. Interment will be held Monday, May 20, 2002, at the Wilmington National Cemetery, Wilmington, N.C. Mr. Williams, a native of Wilmington, had retired from the Army as First Sergeant E-8, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of numerous medals including the Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device and Army Commendations Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of the Philadelphia United Methodist Church and had taught Sunday School. He was a Lay Speaker at the Augusta Rescue Mission and a volunteer at the Soup Kitchen. Additional survivors include two sons, Jimmie L. Williams and daughter-in-law, Kathy B. Williams, Harlem, and Grant D. Williams, Augusta; one brother, Jessie Potter, Denison, Texas; four sisters, Hazel Duff, Harlem, Irene Davis, Wilmington, Jessie Mae Sargent, Columbia, S.C., and Bernice Briles, Kansas City; and one grandson, Christopher Williams. Memorials may be made to the Augusta Rescue Missions 526 Walker Street, Augusta, GA 30901. Friends may call at the residence 4706 Wymberly Circle, Martinez, or Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m., at Starling Funeral Home, Hwy 78, Harlem, Ga.
