GreenJackets rally to beat Bombers

COLUMBIA - Russell Lewis' single in the top of the seventh inning drove in Luis Cruz, as the Augusta GreenJackets beat the Capital City Bombers 2-1 at Capital City Stadium on Wednesday.

Bombers starter David Mattox kept the Jackets' bats silent for 5 2/3 innings. He allowed five hits, one run and struck out eight. Augusta's Edgar Martinez drove in Bryan Barnowski to tie the game at 1 in the sixth.

Then, the Jackets came alive in the seventh off Rafael Lopez (0-3).

Antron Seiber, John Hattig, Cruz and Lewis each collected two hits for the Jackets (20-19). Wilfredo Ledezma (2-1) tossed six innings, scattering five hits while striking out six.

The Bombers' Angel Pagan walked and stole his 19th base of the year in the first, and came home to score Capital City's only run on Justin Huber's fielder's choice.

Capital City had chances to score in the final two innings, including a runner a second base in the ninth, but the Bombers couldn't score.
