Col. Leo White (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest in an Augusta Hospital Friday, May 10, 2002, Col. retired, Leo Thomas White, 79, husband of Mrs. Vivian Knight White of Augusta. Funeral services will be today, May 12, 2002, at 2 p.m., from the Hatcher Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Gaspar Hegedus officiating. Interment will be Monday at 2 p.m., in the Gum Branch Cemetery in Hinesville, Ga. with military honors. Other family members include his nephew, James H. White of Breckenbridge, Colo.; cousin, Helene Gilmartin of Augusta and the late Cardinal Frances J. Spellman. Col. White was a native of Whitman, Mass. He served 28 years in the U.S. Marines and Army retiring in 1971. He made his home in Augusta and was a member of the Pinnacle Club, Fort Gordon Officers Club and life member of the Retired Officers Association. He was also a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today beginning at 1 p.m. Hatcher Funeral Home, Augusta.
