Regarding Ken Oglesby's May 9 "Swim at your own risk" letter, the new lights shining all night long that have been installed at the old pumping station are much more annoying than any group of kids swimming in the river.
I enjoy canoeing and fly fishing as well as a dip on the hot days and I still enjoy the sounds of the kids laughing and having a good time on the waterway.
I just don't understand how the Augusta Canal Authority has any jurisdiction over the river. It may have it over the canal and the walkway, but surely their jurisdiction doesn't include the river.
Please turn the lights off at 10 p.m. Post signs to warn the waders and stop using the police force to sit out at the pumping station to enforce a law that the Augusta Canal Authority has no jurisdiction over.
