Augusta Assembly holds annual ball

The Augusta Assembly celebrated its annual Spring Ball on Wednesday at the old Government House on Telfair Street.

The Spring Ball is one of two events held by the club each year and resembles a cocktail party.

The Augusta Assembly is a social club begun in 1952. It has always been made up of 52 couples. It elects new members only when older members die or leave the assembly.

Officers are elected by the assembly each year. Tommy Blanchard is the current president, with Katherine Dunbar serving as secretary.

Membership in the club is partially based on long-term residence - one of the couple must have lived in Augusta for 10 years or more. They also must be younger than 50 at the time they're being considered. Current members decide who will be elected to the organization.
