New PBS show searches for life
The Public Television special Search for the First Human examines the astonishing discovery in Kenya in 2000 of what are thought to be the oldest human bones in existence. Scientists discuss the finding and what it could mean for the theory of evolution. It airs at 9 tonight on WEBA-TV (Channel 14) and on WCES-TV (Channel 20).
THE WINE: Pacific Rim Dry Riesling
THE WINERY: Bonny Doon
THE PRICE: $12
ASSESSMENT: "A wonderful nose full of apple and honeysuckle aromas. Big, ripe fruit, especially melon and citrus notes, fill the mouth, along with green apple sensations. The finish is clean, with green grape flavors and almost a crisp slate sensation, all the while subtly reintroducing the dominant flavors like fireflies, a pop here and there."
PAIR WITH: Almost any spicy food will work well with this wine, such as Creole cooking. If you are not in the mood for hot and wild food, serve with a citrus-grilled fish dish.
