State schools Superintendent Linda Schrenko was recuperating at her Columbia County home Monday after falling from a ladder Friday.
Mrs. Schrenko, who is seeking the Republican nomination for governor, fell off a ladder while painting her bathroom ceiling, according to campaign manager Richard Leonard.
"I'm going to live, much to everyone's chagrin - if I can get over the bruised ego," Mrs. Schrenko said Monday after returning from the doctor.
She said medical tests that day determined that she was suffering from bruised ribs and a mild concussion.
Mrs. Schrenko said she was painting her bathroom's 10-foot-high ceiling and apparently stepped too high and reached too far, knocking the ladder off balance. The white enamel paint, the ladder and Mrs. Schrenko came crashing down onto the tile floor.
She was briefly knocked unconscious, and she called a friend to drive her to the doctor because she was alone in her Columbia County home at the time, she said.
She may be down, but she's not out.
Mrs. Schrenko said she plans to have someone drive her to Atlanta this week for a Teacher Advisory meeting, but will likely take it easy for the next few days.
"I've got a big ol' lump on the back of my head and bruises all over the place, but I'm alive and well," she said. "I might not be as swift as I want to be right now, but I'm still in the race."
