Mr. James McElmurray (AUGUSTA, Ga.)



AUGUSTA, Ga. - James Anderson McElmurray, 80, of Beech Island, entered into rest Saturday, April 27, 2002, at the VA Medical Center, 1 Freedom Way. James was predeceased by his parents, Robert Lee McElmurray and Josephine Parker McElmurray of Beech Island; his sisters, Josephine P. McElmurray of Aiken and Trudy (J.P.) Clark of Augusta; wife, Kinney Halback McElmurray of Beech Island; and Lee Wingate McElmurray, mother of his children, of Beech Island; and his daughter, Patti M. Asbill of Columbia. He was most proud of having raised and loved eight children. He is survived by his children, James A. (Jackie) McElmurray Jr., Aiken, J. Nolan (Glennis) McElmurray, Beech Island, Janet A. McElmurray, Evans. He is survived by stepchildren, Scott (Freda) Koster, Aiken, Jeff (Renaee) Koster, Manson, Iowa, Mike (Phyllis) Koster, Jackson and Mark (Wendy) Koster, Beech Island. Suvivors also include a brother, Robert L., "Bubba," McElmurray; and sister, Elizabeth (Marion - deceased) Golden, of Beech Island; a sister, Sara (Savoy - deceased) Miles of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a brother, Richard P. (Louise) McElmurray of Charleston, S.C..; and eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren. A lifelong resident of Beech Island and North Augusta, he was a member of Historic First Baptist Church of Beech Island, the Beech Island Agricultural Club, American Legion, the Acacia Masonic Lodge. He graduated in 1939 from North Augusta High School, and served his country proudly as a member of Company A, 871 Aviation Engineers, from 1943 - 1945 in the WWII Pacific Theater (New Guinea and Luzon, Philippines). He was a member of Local 150 Pipe Fitters and he was voted farmer of the year in 1955. It is said "he was a pipe fitter by trade but a farmer by heart." A service of remembrance will be held 4 p.m., May 11 at Historic First Baptist Church, Beech Island, Pastor Frank Hyder officiating. A barbecue dinner/fellowship will follow the service.
