Boy swallows heroin to serve as drug mule

ATLANTA -A 12-year-old boy from Nigeria agreed to swallow condoms filled with heroin before flying to the United States because he was desperate to get back to his family in Atlanta, his mother said.

Prince Nnaedozie Umegbolu swallowed 87 heroin-filled condoms and flew to New York on Wednesday but became sick before meeting whoever had promised him $1,900 to act as a contraband courier, authorities said.

His mother, Alissa Walden of Norcross, said her son's desperation made him a perfect target for drug dealers.

Ms. Walden said her son was born in the United States but she had sent him to live with his paternal grandparents in Nigeria.
