Ford runs for 101 yards in GSU scrimmage

STATESBORO, Ga. -- Sophomore Hakim Ford sparked the offense with 101 yards on 13 carries and tackle Eric Hadley and linebacker Justin Godsey each had seven tackles in Georgia Southern second full scrimmage of spring practice on Saturday.

"I thought it was a spirited scrimmage," coach Mike Sewak said. "There were a lot of good things to take out of this. For starters, the defense played much better today. Offensively, we cut down our turnovers considerably, and for the most part, valued the ball and kept it off the ground."

The scrimmage was officiated by Southern Conference officials.

Missing from the defense were a trio of all-conference players - Freddy Pesqueira (sprained elbow), Joe Scott (fractured hand) and David Young (sprained shoulder).

The defense allowed three short scoring runs, but yielded 100 yards less than it did in a scrimmage last week.

In addition, it had two interceptions, recovered three fumbles, had four tackles for loss and three sacks during the 90-minute scrimmage.
