USC Aiken hits 3 homers in rout

USC Aiken completed a season sweep of Newberry on Tuesday night, slamming the Indians 11-1. Mike Ferrell (3-0) worked five innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run while striking out four.

Offensively, the Pacers (26-14) got home runs from Ashley Morgan, Demetrick Drumming and Kyle Langley. Drumming has 13 round-trippers this season.

USC Aiken plays host to Saint Augustine on Thursday at 6 p.m. before taking to the road for a three-game series against Augusta State this weekend.

  • At Athens, Cole Helms pitched six strong innings and Tennessee Tech rallied for three runs in the seventh to beat Georgia 4-3.
  • The Bulldogs (15-8) led 2-1 on a solo homer by Lee Mitchell and an RBI single by Clint Sammons in the second inning.

Jason Fellows had held Tennessee Tech (13-12) to one unearned run through six innings, but was replaced in the seventh by Brad Mathews (1-1) when Ryan Hay walked to open the inning. After Carlos Martin grounded into a force play, Josh Mosser singled and Ben Shannon walked to fill the bases. Jesse Johnson singled home the tying run, and another run scored on an error by catcher Sammons.

Helms (3-3) batted in the final run with an infield out.
