MADISON, Ga.- Funeral services for Lawrence Jackson "Jack" Thornton, 57, of Madison, formerly of Washington-Wilkes, will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2002, at Eastside Lord & Stephens Funeral Home in Athens. The service celebrating Jacks life will be at 2 p.m. followed by graveside services at Resthaven Cemetery in Washington, Ga. He died Saturday, March 2 in Lexington, Ga. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at Eastside Lord & Stephens Funeral Home in Athens. Mr. Thornton was born in Washington, Ga., and was the son of Mrs. Myrline Thornton of Tignall, and of the late Lawrence Thornton. He was a State Farm Insurance Agent in Athens. Survivors include his wife, Ann Thornton, of Madison; one son, Russ Thornton of Athens; two daughters, Nechelle Thornton-Stam of Atlanta and Ashley Thornton of Athens; three brothers, Roy Thornton and Jerry Thornton, both of Tignall and Allen Thornton of Washington; two sisters, Alicia Thornton of Athens and Mary Jacobs of Monticello; one granddaughter; Olivia Thornton- Stam; one niece, Jennifer Bowcock of Jackson; and two nephews, Jeff Thornton of Athens and Jason Jacobs of Jackson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the following: Cerebral Palsy, Arthritis or the Parkinsons Disease Foundations. You may also wish to donate to the L. Jack Thornton Scholarship Fund for a deserving football senior at Washinton-Wilkes Comprehensive High School. This scholarship is dedicated to Jacks wonderful memories at Washington-Wilkes High School, as well as Jacks love of the game and spirit of winning not only in football, but also in life!
