GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Juan Dixon, who averaged 24 points in two victories to close out the best regular season in Maryland history, was named the Atlantic Coast Conference basketball player of the week Monday.
B.J. Elder of Georgia Tech received rookie honors.
Dixon, a 6-foot-3, 165-pound guard from Baltimore, Md., led the ACC regular season champions with 25 points at Florida State on Wednesday. He scored 23 against Virginia in the final game at Cole Field House on Sunday.
Dixon also got five assists and three steals. He shot 3-for-8 from three-point range.
Elder, a 6-3, 215-pound, guard/forward from Madison, Ga., scored 25 points - the best single-game performance by an ACC freshman this season - to lead Georgia Tech to a 90-77 victory over then 22nd-ranked Wake Forest.
He went 7-for-10 from the field, including 4-for-6 on three-pointers, and 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
Elder also scored 10 points and had five rebounds in the Yellow Jackets' 86-78 victory at Florida State.
Also Monday, Dixon tied with Duke's Jason Williams to lead the all-ACC team for the year, while Elder was named to the freshman team.
