For years, Augusta has benefited greatly from the leadership provided in the Georgia General Assembly by our own Rep. Jack Connell, D-Augusta. Consistently, he has protected our interests, served our needs and looked out for Augusta. Mr. Connell's stewardship continues, and it benefits all in our community.
On the issue of improving our local government, Mr. Connell has stepped forward and introduced a bill that would correct the problems with our local government. Under Mr. Connell's leadership, the mayor would receive a vote and be a member of the commission. Also, the number of votes required to pass an ordinance would be reduced from six to five.
Finally, Mr. Connell gives to our able city administrator the authority to hire and fire department heads. In this simple and thoughtful manner, Mr. Connell corrects the problems and makes our city government better. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Connell.
