BACK IN TIME

Feb. 24, 1902

The congregation of the First Baptist church, at a conference yesterday after the morning service, received the report of the building committee recommending that the present church be torn down and a new one erected at a cost in the neighborhood of $50,000. A finer site for such a structure than the corner of Greene and Jackson streets could not be secured.

It is the purpose of the church body to give Augusta a place of worship in the center of the city that will be a lasting monument to the liberality of this generation.

The report of the committee was adopted by the congregation, after a brief discussion and an advisory board appointed.
