MARTINEZ, Ga. - Roy Eugene Judkins, age 58, of Martinez, passed away, Thursday evening February 14, 2002, at the V.A. Hospital, Augusta. A life long resident of the Augusta area, Mr. Judkins had served in the U.S. Army for 17 years before being honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant Major in 1978. He had served during the Vietnam Conflict for which service he earned and was awarded the second highest military decoration for extraordinary heroism, the Distinguished Service Cross. He had been inducted into the "Hall of Heroes" at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. in 1996, the Legion of Valor of the United States of America, with lifetime membership in 1998, was recognized and memorialized with the placement and dedication of a plaque in his honor at ÒHeroes Overlook, Riverwalk, Augusta in 1998 and was inducted into Ordnance Hall of Fame in 1999. He is survived by his father, Roy Judkins, Grovetown; his son, Roy Mitchell Judkins, Evans; his daughter, Jennifer Tracy Franklin, Winder; one brother, Charles Judkins, Grovetown; one sister, Shirley Longlois, Martinez; four grandchildren, Tracy Danielle Judkins, Roy Christopher Judkins, Sarah Ashley Wells and Ashley Diane Franklin; and a close friend, Betty Harpe, Martinez. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2002, from the chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, with interment to follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
