AUGUSTA, Ga. - William Estus Jakes Jr., of Oberlin Road died February 13, 2002, at the age of 83. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 15, 2002, at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Mr. Jakes attended Junior College of Augusta, the University of North Carolina and the Citadel. He was a unit commander in the U.S. Army Parachute Infantry during WW II. After separation from the service he was southeastern regional manager for Perfect Circle Corporation (DANA) in Atlanta, then general manager of American Parts System, Charlotte, N.C., a subsidiary of Gulf & Western Industries, retiring in 1980. He was a former member of Charlotte Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, a Shriner, a life member of the Association of Citadel Men, Charter Member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church and a member of the Augusta Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Marian Maxwell Jakes; one daughter, Anne Jakes Harris of Durham, N.C.; one son, William E. Jakes III of Columbia, S.C.; five grandchildren, Emily Marshall, Paul Harris, Larry Harris, Dorian Jakes and Adrian Jakes; two stepchildren, Chris A. Smith and his wife, Lynda and Mary Edith Guye and husband Russell; four step grandchildren, Christopher Smith Jr., Joseph Smith, Nicholas Guye and Amanda Guye. Pallbearers will be Larry J. Harris, Paul W. Harris, Mike W. Marshall, Russell S. Guye, Joseph E. Smith and Chris A. Smith.
