ATLANTA -- Kyle Bakker held Tennessee Tech to one earned run over seven innings Friday as Georgia Tech beat the Golden Eagles 12-3 in the home opener for the Yellow Jackets.
Bakker (2-0) struck out nine and yielded no walks. Georgia Tech (3-0) took control with six runs in the third inning, including a two-run double from Victor Menocal. Eagles starter David Jackson (0-1) was pulled with two outs in the third.
Freshman Eric Patterson was 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI for the Yellow Jackets. Tennessee Tech's Britt Clubb had a two-run homer.
A Georgia Tech opening-day record crowd of 1,814 attended the first game at the new, $9.7 million Russ Chandler Stadium.
