Baseball: Gamecocks 3, Charleston Southern 2

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Blake Taylor pitched five hitless innings and outfielder Garris Gonce broke a tie with an RBI single in the eighthto give South Carolina a 3-2 win over Charleston Southern.

The win gave South Carolina (3-0) a sweep in its season-opening series against Charleston Southern (0-5).

Fourteen consecutive batters were retired with Taylor on the mound before Mario Suarez walked.

With the score tied 2-2, South Carolina shortstop Drew Meyer singled and stole second base with one out in the eighth inning.

Taylor (1-0) picked up the win, and Robert Swindle (0-1) took the loss.
