Reward offered for robbery suspect

Authorities announced a $500 reward today for information leading to the arrest of a man who robbed two Augusta liquor stores at gunpoint Thursday and Friday.

The robber walked into the KC Package Shop on Old Waynesboro Road on Thursday night, pulled a silver semi-automatic gun and fired a shot into the counter. He left with a $15 bottle of Seagram's Gin and some money, police said.

The next night, a man matching the description walked into Joe's Package Shop on Peach Orchard Road and robbed the cashier of money at gunpoint. A sheriff's deputy patrolling the area saw the robber run from the store and get into a dark-colored Nissan Sentra occupied by two other people.

"The deputy chased him for awhile but lost him," said Maj. Ken Autry with the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

The vehicle, believed to be red or maroon made between 1991 and 1995, lost a plastic wheel-well insert.

The sheriff's office is offering $500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Billy Kitchens or any other violent-crime investigator at 821-1020 or 821-1080 after business hours.
