On the subject of Augusta trash collection and the recent change for many of us, it may be time for some positive comments. Although this may be a minority opinion and out of character for me (as I've been told), here goes.
We used to get one garbage pickup a week from our private-company service; now we get two. We used to have a limit of four bags of yard trash per week; now the limit is 30. We used to take our recyclables to the collection point at Daniel Village, now we have them picked up here once a week.
When the new service was outlined to us a few months ago, what was promised - in writing - seemed too good to be true. However, they've delivered what they promised. And the cost on our annual tax bill is well under what it used to be.
Yes, the contractor for this area is just one of three in the city and handles only one of the seven pickup areas. But that company, Augusta Disposal and Recycling (and its Coleman subcontractor) should be recognized for a job well done.
