DALTON, Ga. - Mr. Vance Sanders, age 80, of Dalton, died Wednesday, January 24, 2002, in Hamilton Medical Center. Mr. Sanders was a World War II veteran and a graduate of Texas Tech with a degree in textile engineering. He was an active member of St. Marks Episcopal Church where he was a Lay Reader. He was also active in Artistic Civic Theatre. Mr. Sanders is survived by his wife, Norma Harris Sanders of the residence; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Kay Sanders of Thomson; stepdaughter, Beverly Thurmond of Canton; stepson, Michael Sligh of North Augusta; sister, Millie Lyon of Texas; brother, Jasper Sanders of Texas; grandchildren, Shane Sanders and Reid Sanders both of Thomson; stepgrandchildren, David Sligh of Dalton and Jessie Sligh of North Carolina. Nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., at St. Marks Episcopal Church with the Rev. C. Dean Taylor and the Rev. Gay Rahn officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery with Shane Sanders, Reid Sanders, David Sligh, Johnathan Renfroe and Conner Taylor serving as pallbearers. A reception and visitation will follow in the parrish hall of the church. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to St. Marks Episcopal Church, 901 W. Emery Street, Dalton, GA 30720 or to the Artistic Civic Theatre, 904 Cherokee Street, Dalton, GA 30720. Love Funeral Home, Dalton, in charge of arrangements.
