Neighbors near East Victory Drive and Limerick Street are looking at women differently since a baby girl was found alive in a nearby trash bin.
Many share theories about who the mother is - probably young, scared and living nearby, they say.
Savannah police have not made any arrests in the case of Baby Grace Doe, found about 3:30 a.m. Monday behind Backus Cadillac with her umbilical cord and placenta attached. Nor are they saying whether the mother lives near the trash bin.
Detectives said the baby's body temperature indicated she had been in the dumpster no more than one hour.
The case has prompted calls from shocked residents to police and the Department of Family and Children Services.
The baby is in state custody. She was moved out of a special needs nursery at Memorial Health University Medical Center and was expected to be released from the hospital by today.
