SARDIS, Ga. - Mr. Herschel V. Carswell, 86, of Johnson Road, Sardis, entered into rest, Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at University Hospital, Augusta. Mr. Carswell was retired as owner and operator of H.V. Carswell & Son Tire Company, Augusta. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and very active as a member of Alcoholic Anonymous Swainsboro and Sylvania Groups. Survivors include his wife, Betty Alley Carswell, Sardis; his 10 children, Frank Stabler, Mimms, Fla., Beth Carswell, Augusta, H.V. (Major) Carswell Jr., Hugo, Okla., Jackson Carswell, Grovetown, Rose Mary Hojestek, South Haven, Miss., Sarah Ann Carswell, Grovetown, Robert Carswell, Warner Robins, Ga., Jackie Joyner, Sardis, Anna Carswell, Faynetteville, N.C. and Van Thompson, Washington State. Additional survivors include his brother, Hugh Carswell, Roebuck, S.C.; three stepchildren, Bobby Larwson, Minnesota, T.A. Alley, Hephzibah and Faye Hayes, Hephzibah and 26 grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Rose Dhu Cemetery, Vidette, Saturday, January 26, 2002, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Rolland Dann officiating.
