WARRENTON, Ga. - Mr. William Alan Anderson, Sr., age 85, of North Whitehead Street, Warrenton died Thursday, January 10, 2002, at University Hospital, Augusta. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 12, 2002, at the Warrenton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Ted Miller and Rev. Leo Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in Sallie Hill Cemetery, Warrenton. Mr. Anderson was a lifelong citizen of Warrenton. Born in Warrenton, he was the son of the late William Whitfield and Gladys Sturgis Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a veteran of World War II, having served four and one half years in the Army Signal Corps in England, North Africa, and Italy. He had been a businessman and farmer, owning a concrete block plant and a dry cleaning plant in Warrenton. He retired from Civil Service at Fort Gordon in 1971 as supervisor of outside communications. He was a member of Warrenton First United Methodist Church and a member of American Legion and VFW. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Wicker Anderson; sons, John Wicker Anderson, Augusta and William Alan Anderson, Jr., Martinez; daughter, Laura Anderson Shearer, Chattanooga, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Robert Simeon Whitelaw III, John Christopher Whitelaw, Benjamin Anderson Whitelaw, William Bryan Anderson, John Wicker Anderson, Jr., Katherine Elizabeth Anderson and Julie Caroline Anderson and great-granddaughter Mary Margaret Whitelaw. Pallbearers will be grandsons, George Brinson Sturgis, and Harold A.Hinesley. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2002, at Lowe Funeral Home.
