I am a volunteer at the Richmond Country Animal Control Shelter on Mack Lane where I often walk dogs to help them become more socialized, therefore friendlier and more adoptable.
I wish to invite you to visit the shelter to learn just how inadequate this facility is. Sometimes as many as four or five dogs are held in a single pen which is dilapidated, unhealthy and traumatizing for the animals. Sometimes as many as 30 animals a day are dumped there or picked us as strays. The animals that are not adopted are put down at a great cost to the county taxpayers.
Our county desperately needs a new and larger shelter that includes a spay and neuter clinic. We need help.
