SYLVANIA, Ga. - Mr. Clifford V. "Punch" Waters, 82, died Friday night at Screven County Hospital. Mr. Waters was a native of Screven County, a member of First Baptist Church where he as a deacon and a member of Guy Smalley Sunday School Class, a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and played football for South Georgia College and the U.S. Navy. He was also a volunteer coach at Slyvania High School, inducted into the Screven County Athletic Hall of Fame, former president of the Dixie Youth League where he refereed midget and b-team games for more than 20 years and was recognized by the National Recreation Association for outstanding contributions to recreation. Mr. Waters was also a member of the Sylvania Lions Club where he was recognized as a Melvin Jones Fellow for dedicated humanitarian services by the Lions Club International Foundation. He retired from Alfred Dorman Wholesale Grocery and B.A.S.F. Mr. Waters is survived by his wife, Dorothy Long Pye Waters of Sylvania; children and in-laws, Lennis P. and Thomas R. Blackburn of Bluffton, S.C., Joseph Oliver and Barbara Pye of Cottageville, S.C., and Debroah P. and Preston Dees of Sylvania; brothers, Lucuis Waters of Sylvania and Barrett Waters of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services for Mr. Waters will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Lonnie Norris and Rev. Clarence Cannon officiating. The burial will be in Screven County Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dick Douglas,Ken Blackburn, Andy Heath, Bruce Oglesby, Joe Griffin, Terrell Jenkins Jr. and Wallace Taylor. Members of the Guy Smalley Sunday School Class and Sylvania Lions Club will serve as honorary pallbearers. In remembrances can be sent to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 318 Sylvania, Ga. 30467.
